Calahonda
Calahonda is situated between Marbella and Fuengirola this is a Coastal region which has mainly been developed for tourism, with apartment blocks and timeshare, it offers great opportunities to both the experienced and newcomer abroad, especially now it has become a place with mixed nationalities and languages.
Calahonda is located close to several golf courses and has the typically sun-drenched beaches for which the Mediterranean is famous. Just 2km drive on the N340 coast road will take you to the picturesque Puerto Cabopino, which has the reputation for being the most secluded ports on the Costa del Sol and is a popular venue for tourists who want to enjoy a good meal before taking a walk along its sandy beaches. Nearby youll discover Miraflores, a popular golf and lawn bowls resort and then Mijas, Andalucías most popular white village, which is situated slightly further northeast in the hills.
Calahonda was a new area in terms of human development and so in this now well developed destination you will find only one monument. If you travel into the hills of Calahonda, just past the El Portón complex, you will encounter a small Christian monument, which due to its location, stands out like a beacon; on a clear day you should be able to see the whole coast from here, including Africa and Gibraltar.
The lower section of Calahonda which is visible from the main N-340 road has a varied selection of both shops, restaurants and bars and is probably one of the best of the shopping, although other parts of Calahonda now provide a huge selection of great places to visit during your holiday, eating and entertainment can be located in the El Zoco centre and of course on the strip which has its own selection of bars and restaurants on offer as well
Being one of the smaller but most built-up areas on the Coast there are very few large nightclubs due to noise pollution laws, but the Trafalgar bar in the El Zoco complex is packed with visitors all evening until about 3a.m,
Across the motorway and adjacent to the El Zoco complex you will find more shops and restaurants, and a gymnasium and other fitness venues., you can also have a game of tennis or enjoy an afternoon horse riding at one of the nearby riding schools.
Calahonda is virtually a self sufficient community which provides an excellent base for the holidaymaker who wants a sun and sea holiday, with good prices and verity in surroundings which seem familiar, Puerto Banus and Marbella are only 15 minutes drive and there are some night clubs in Fuengirola, and a cinema complex which shows films in English.
